With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I thought I’d round up my favourite ‘ode to moms’ as of recent.
Moms are a special thing. They have kept the human race going, literally and figuratively.
I became a mother on October 30, 2014; that day my whole world changed. I thought my heart was full when I married my husband and we found about our pregnancy, but the day my son arrived, my heart burst at the seams.
The love of a mother is fierce, and her strength? Unrelenting. Mothers embody the stamina of a solider, the protectiveness of a bear and the warmth only found in the place you call home.
Here are my favourite Mother’s Day stories:
The Mother/Daughter dilemma – Erin Christie
Erin is the editor over at Peachland View and her latest editorial was a sweet homage to her mother. Sometimes as children we don’t fully appreciate our moms until we’ve grown up and are out of the house. Take a read, you won’t be disappointed.
Cancer-stricken mother writes on her present and her family’s future – Tamara Gignac
This one really pulled at my heart strings, and my tear ducts. How do you put into words that this Mother’s Day might be the last? Well, this power house of a mother and wife, Tamara Gignac, does so with such eloquence and honesty. It goes without saying, that after reading this, I said a little prayer for her and her family, held my son a little closer, and reminded my mom of how dear she is to me. // Leah Hennel, Swerve photo
Ashton Kutcher on Houzz TV
I always wrote Ashton Kutcher off as kind of a dummy. I mean, given the roles he plays in most of his movies. (No offence, Ashton). But boy was I wrong–he’s just a really good actor. This Houzz video of him surprising his mom with a basement reno gave me a whole different perspective of the guy. One: he uses Houzz, and has good taste. Two: He’s a mama’s boy! Plus, his mom’s reaction to her new space is priceless, and adorable.
