There are so many reasons why I love the Okanagan. It’s a perfect place to raise a family, there are endless opportunities to take the kids (kid, in my case) outdoors. From regional parks, beaches, ball diamonds and now, a petting farm!
Last year my husband and I checked out the petting farm in Vernon and we stopped by the one in Winfield; but in terms of being able to actually interact with the animals I’d say Kelowna’s Hoof Prints Barnyard Parties is the best. They just opened up this year, and I already know it’s going to be a hit once summer comes–I’ll be back at least!
You can actually get up close and personal with the animals. My six month old was petting the goats, I got to cradle the baby goats, my husband hung out with the baby cow, and we came right up to the mini horses and donkeys, while dodging the sporadic lambs. They also have pony rides (get out the camera!) and a green area with (flash back to the 90s) outdoor play activities like a badminton set, hoola hoops, those velcro gloves with the fuzzy tennis ball…you get what I’m saying. There’s a fire pit that crackles surrounded by large and miniature adirondack chairs, and if you forget to bring lunch or a picnic, they have a snack bar!
It’s open every Sunday from 10-4 and can also be booked for private functions. If you’re in the Kelowna area and you have a gang of kids that need to be entertained, I’d highly recommend this place! It’s accessible and has an inviting family-friendly environment.
If you’ve already checked it out, tell me what you thought about it in the comments below!
